Bring a cooler with soggy PB&J sandwiches in it to the beach so you can watch The Air & Water Show if you want, but if I were you, I’d try to do something a bit more tasty. Along the lake there are many great restaurants that offer not only a great view of the Thunderbirds that will be flying overhead, but great food too. Some even offer specials for The Air & Water Show, which sure is swell of them! So why not take them up on one of their offers?

Castaways Bar & Grill

1603 N. Lake Shore Drive
North Avenue Beach
Chicago, IL 60614
(773) 281-1200

On North Avenue Beach is Castaways, a beach-side restaurant and bar that gives THE perfect view of The Air & Water Show. You can not only get the best seats to see jets and planes fly loops around each other in the sky, but you’ll have access to a breakfast and lunch buffet. And, even better, there’s an open bar from 9AM – 4PM. Yeah, most days 9AM would be too early to start drinking, but this is The Air & Water Show weekend, guys. You can start drinking anytime you want. Just make sure it has juice or something in it. Find out more at their website.

Oak Street Beach

1000 North Lake Shore Drive
Chicago, IL 60611
(312) 742-5121

This bit of heaven, located downtown, compliments the gigantic skyscrapers surrounding it’s West side. And on the East side? Nothing but sand and water, making it a superb spot for Air & Water Show enjoyment. There are multiple packages you can buy, that range greatly in price, the most expensive of which gets you table seating on the patio, security, and food and drink. Oh, and air-conditioned bathrooms. I don’t know about you, but I like to be cool when I check out my sweet, wavy hair-do in the bathroom mirror. Find out more on their website.

The Signature Room

875 N. Michigan Ave.
Chicago, IL 60611

Apparently this is a good place to propose at (yikes, am I right?). Located on the 95th floor of the John Hancock Center, the view here is good regardless of The Air & Water Show (but certainly, Jets zooming over the water improves it).

Riva Crab House

700 E. Grand Ave.
Chicago, Il 60611
(312) 644-7482

You don’t just go to Riva to eat, you go there to dine. Apparently that’s fancier. Located on Navy Pier, Riva is a good choice (though not as close as some of the other choices) to watch The Air & Water Show. The food at Riva is probably the fanciest outta the bunch too. We’re not talkin’ hot dogs and mac & cheese here, we’re talking about things called roasted beet towers, clam chowder, lobster from all over the world and amazing steaks. If you can afford Riva, then do it. And, you know, take me with.

This year there will be 4 food trucks down on North Ave Beach. The Wagyu Wagon, Caponies, LiliieQ, and Taquerio Fusion. The Parks Department decided to have a Food Truck Court to help with feeding the masses. Come down and see us!
